Bibliographie zur Zeitgeschichte
Bibliographie zur Zeitgeschichte
The Bibliographie zur Zeitgeschichte is a selective bibliography of the history of the 20th century, with a main focus on Germany and its international relations. Since 1953, the bibliography has been published by the Institut für Zeitgeschichte (Institute of Contemporary History), which was established in 1949 to foster research of the National Socialist era. The Institute’s library started editing a selective bibliography based on the acquisitions of the library in order to spread information about recent literature on contemporary history. Until the late 1980s no other current bibliography covering all periods and aspects of German history in the 20th century existed.
At first, the bibliography was published regularly within the journal Vierteljahrshefte für Zeitgeschichte (“Contemporary History Quarterly”) from 1953 onwards. Between 1982 and 1997, an accumulated version of the whole bibliography for the years between 1953 and 1995 was edited. Since 1989 the “Bibliography of Contemporary History” has been published as a yearly supplementary volume to the Vierteljahrshefte. Finally, since 1996 all the bibliographic data is available within the online catalogue of the library and can be accessed by the alphanumeric notations of the printed bibliography.
