Jahresberichte für deutsche Geschichte

Jahresberichte für deutsche Geschichte

The Jahresberichte für deutsche Geschichte project came into existence in 1880 and has therefore an over 125-year tradition to look back on. Since 1927 annual print volumes of the bibliography are being produced.

As the most comprehensive subject bibliography in German History it lists German- and foreign-language academic publications in German history from the beginnings in the Roman era to the present. Monographs, collections, periodical articles, editions of sources, works of reference and bibliographies are registered. Literature, which is not distributed through the book market, is also included if possible. Work in neighbouring as well as the ancillary disciplines is taken into account if relevant to German History. A limited range of literature pertaining to local history is also admitted.

Today the online version of the Jahresberichte ( covers records from 1974 onwards while continuing the retrospective inclusion of the publications of 1949-73. Moreover, in a project that ran from 2001 to 2003, Jahresberichte volumes 1 to 14 for report years 1925 to 1938, which appeared from 1927 to 1940, were digitized and made available on the Internet for their value for academic history (see Since 1993 the project is based at the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences and collaborates with the German National Library, the Berlin State Library and the Bavarian State Library in Munich.
